Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about planning your stay at Silverton Summit Retreat, our luxury four-bedroom home in Silverton, Colorado. Have a question we haven't covered? Get in touch and we'll be glad to help.

How many guests does Silverton Summit Retreat sleep?

The home comfortably sleeps up to 10 guests across four bedrooms, each with its own private en-suite bathroom. With a gourmet chef's kitchen, a gas fireplace, and spacious living areas, it's designed for families and groups who want room to spread out.

Where is the property located?

Silverton Summit Retreat is at 1008 Reese Street, just minutes from historic downtown Silverton and the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad depot. You're within easy reach of Main Street's restaurants and shops, plus the trailheads, jeep roads, and ski terrain of the surrounding San Juan Mountains.

What's the nearest airport, and how do we get there?

The two closest commercial airports are Durango-La Plata County Airport (DRO), about 48 miles and roughly a 1.5-hour drive to the south, and Montrose Regional Airport (MTJ), about 1.5 hours to the north. Larger hubs include Grand Junction (around 2.5 hours) and Albuquerque (around 4 hours). From Durango you'll drive north on U.S. 550 over Coal Bank and Molas passes; from the north you'll come south over Red Mountain Pass on the famous Million Dollar Highway.

Is the drive to Silverton difficult, especially in winter?

The drive in on U.S. 550 is spectacular but mountainous, crossing high passes above 10,000 feet. In summer it's an easy, scenic trip. In winter the passes are plowed and stay open, but they can see snow and temporary storm closures, so we recommend a vehicle with good tires (AWD or 4WD in winter), unhurried timing, and a quick check of current conditions at COtrip.org before you set out.

How high is Silverton, and should we worry about the altitude?

Silverton sits at 9,318 feet, and the surrounding trails and passes climb well above that. Most visitors feel great, but the thin air can cause mild altitude effects the first day or two. Take it easy on arrival, drink plenty of water, go easy on alcohol, and save the most strenuous hikes for later in your trip.

When is the best time to visit?

It depends on what you're after. Summer (June–September) is prime for jeeping the Alpine Loop, hiking to alpine lakes, mountain biking, and riding the historic train. Fall brings brilliant golden aspens. Winter (roughly December–March) is for skiing at Silverton Mountain, snowmobiling, and cozy nights by the fire. Silverton is a true year-round basecamp — see our Things to Do in Silverton guide for ideas.

Is there a minimum night stay?

Minimum stays vary by season, with longer minimums around holidays and peak periods. The exact requirement for your dates will show on the booking calendar when you check availability.

Where do we park?

The home has a private driveway with room for two or more vehicles, plus street parking. There's also space for trailers, RVs, or a sled deck — handy if you're bringing off-road rigs, snowmobiles, or gear for backcountry adventures.

Are pets allowed?

To keep the home in top condition for every guest, Silverton Summit Retreat is not pet-friendly, and we kindly ask that no pets stay at the property. The home is also entirely non-smoking.

Is the home good for families and large groups?

Absolutely. With four en-suite bedrooms, room for 10 guests, a full chef's kitchen, and comfortable common areas, it's ideal for multi-family trips, friend groups, and family reunions who want everyone together under one roof.

What amenities are included?

Highlights include a gourmet chef's kitchen with full-size appliances, four private en-suite bathrooms, a gas fireplace, heated tile floors, vaulted ceilings, in-home laundry, and complimentary WiFi — all finished to a high-end standard throughout.
